Ashvin I. Patel, M.D.
Dr. Patel specializes in spine surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Patel attended the Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Patel was the recipient of the Reader’s Digest Fellowship and the Tufts University School of Medicine Prize in Family Medicine. He did his internship in General Surgery and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed a one year fellowship in Spine Surgery at the Lakewood Orthopaedic Clinic in Colorado.
Dr. Patel serves as Chief Spine Consultant, Spinal Cord Injury Center at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, Sarasota, FL; and Spine Consultant, Children’s Medical Clinic of Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL. He is also a spine consultant for Sarasota Therapy Center and Bollettieri Sports Medicine Center. He enjoys teaching and has been a member of the Sarasota County Medical Society, Committee on medical education. He has lectured frequently on various disorders of the spine.
He enjoys attending national meetings on spinal disorders and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society. Dr. Patel has applied for membership to the Cervical Spine Research Society and the Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Patel is widely published in orthopaedic journals and text books. Most recently he contributed Evaluation and Treatment of Fractures of the Spine to Hoppenfeld, S. (Editor): Treatment and Rehabilitation of Fractures: Lippincott-Raven. Philadelphia, PA, 1999.
In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys spending time with his family and traveling. He is an avid squash player and also enjoys playing tennis.
